Women’s Conference 2011

Tag cloud of words from the Women's Conference, 2011The Titus 2 women’s Conference in May was a great day of blessing. One hundred and seventy women gathered, primarily from Lansdowne, but also some from surrounding churches.

Kath Paterson opened up God’s Word in Titus under the headings of “Grace that sets us apart”, Grace that shapes us” and “Grace that spurs us on”. Her talks were very challenging, encouraging us to live our lives in the way God intended for us as women.

There were also seminars from Ann Benton who spoke on parenting issues and looking after elderly parents. All who attended this found it very helpful.

Sue Pickard spoke on “Growing through stress”. This again was so helpful and encouraging and afterwards, many said they would have liked to listen to her speak for longer.

Daphne Ross spoke on “Friendship Evangelism”. Her natural, gentle approach made evangelism seem so easy, even though we all find it so difficult. She challenged us to have such a concern for the lost that we put fears aside and be bold in our witness, giving helpful suggestions as to how to move a conversation in to the things of God.

Speakers were Ann Benton, Kath Paterson, Daphne Ross and Sue Pickard

Suggestions for future women’s ministry from those who attended when asked, said things such as—“another day like today”, “women’s bible study”, “encourage prayer triplets”, and much more. There may be a half day in the planning for the end of the year. – so watch this space! Many women requested to be mentored and said they would be willing to mentor another woman. They also said training in this might be helpful.

Overall, it was a wonderful day of teaching, worship and fellowship. From the feedback we received, we hope to repeat a similar day again in the future. A special thank you goes out to all the men who helped make this day so successful.

Bigger Picture 2011 – Review

The Bigger Picture is our annual events week. An opportunity to invite friends to hear about the difference that Jesus can make – through music, real life stories and engaging thought provoking talks. This year was possibly the best yet – with four packed-out nights in a cool café style environment.

We had a great line up of special guests: Former international cricketer turned singer – Henry Olonga. Fiona Castle – wife of the late television presenter Roy Castle and trustee of numerous charities. Jon Dawson – local research scientist. Robin Oake – retired police superintendent and father of policeman Stephen who was murdered in a terrorist attack. Their stories were gripping and moving as we heard how Jesus makes a difference in the face of injustice, grief and death and how Christianity stand up as objective truth than can be investigated.

Singer song write Andy Mayo came back for a return visit and we also had music from local group ‘Have faith’. Michael Ots, local author and speaker then spoke each night on a different theme related to the special guest’s story. Watch our web site for more info on the Bigger Picture 2012!

New Web Site

We’ve updated the web site for the new year.

There are a few cosmetic changes that you’ll notice immediately but the main changes have been to the web site software which makes maintenance of the site much easier.

We’ve also taken this chance to move some things around, particularly the media section. The live service feed has been moved from the front page and is now available under the LIVE menu option or directly from http://lbconline.co.uk/live which should be short and simple to pass on to people.

Please bear with us while we complete some of the details and get the whole site up and running.
